The Makino Aquatic Centre and it’s staff are proud of being an inclusive, welcoming recreational facility for all levels and abilities. With an accessible facility and staff trained in how each feature operates, swimmers can enjoy their level of swimming with ease.

For swimmers who may be hesitate, staff are happy to provide a tour of the facility on the day or prior to.

Below are some commonly asked questions that may help to make your swim session and visit to the Makino Aquatic Centre more relaxed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Arriving

There are three accessible carparks. Two located to the left of the front entrance, one at the right of the rear entrance. Our front entry to Makino Aquatic Centre is flat with an automatic door.

Our Pools

  • Pool access is through an entrance gate. Please ask staff to help you if you need assistance.
  • The 25m pool has ramp access
  • The 25m, 50m, learn to swim pool, play pool, and toddlers pool all have hoist access.
  • There are slings for the hoist available for use.
  • You are welcome to leave your mobility equipment poolside as long as it is not blocking a walkway or emergency exit. Lifeguards can help you to find a suitable location if needed and can bring your equipment to you when you are ready to leave the pool.
  • Guide dogs are welcome to be poolside.

Pool Temperatures

  • 25m Lane pool is 28 degrees
  • Learn to swim pool is 32 degrees
  • Play pool is 31 degrees

Accessible Toilets

In the foyer: An accessible toilet is located to the right of reception. This facility includes a toilet, rail and sink.

Poolside: Three accessible toilets are located in the family change rooms to the right as you enter poolside.

Family Change Rooms

Our three family change rooms are fully accessible. You can find them to the right as you enter poolside.

Two of these accessible changing rooms have height adjustable beds, showers and hoists.

We ask that you please bring your own slings for the hoists, as they are not available to hire.

Information For Carers

The role of the caregiver varies based on individual needs, however you may need to:

  • Assist with communication.
  • Assist with personal care.
  • Help the person you are caring for move through the centre and exiting the centre in an emergency.
  • Assist in the pool or actively monitor from poolside.
  • Assist in group fitness classes.
  • Accompanying carers swim for free
